The Day Of Your Appointment
We prefer to see all our patients by prior appointment. You can obtain an appointment for a particular retina consultant by calling up the reception during working hours. Appointment for subsequent follow ups after the first visit can be obtained at the end your visit to the hospital.
You can call up the emergency mobile number for any eye emergency. The ophthalmologist on call will attend to your queries and advice you and may call you to the hospital if an examination is felt necessary.
What to Bring with You ?
You should bring your medical record file that contins all your medical as well as ophthalmic records. You should bring the referring letter from your referring ophthalmologist along with all the records and the results of diagnostic tests and photographs. You should not forget to bring your updated medical records and the latest laboratory reports pertaining to diabetes, heart condition and any other systemic illness. In addition, you should also bring the discharge summary for having admitted recently to any hospital under any medical or surgical condition.
What to Expect ?
Upon arrival ..............by filling up an introductory form. The you will meet an Optometrist who will document your ocular and medical history. After conducting the “Vision Test” for acuity of your vision, the dilating drops will be put into your eyes. This procedure will dilate the puplil of your eye, so as to allow the retina specialist to conduct a detailed examination inside the eye that includes e vitreous, retina and the fundus. Your retina specialist will examine the eye using various types of lenses and lighting system that allows one to conduct a detailed evaluation of the retina and other parts that are situated in the posterior segment of the eye ie. behind the lens chamber or anterior segment of the eye. Once the examination of the posterior segment is completed, the retina specialist may order of conduct various confirmatory non-invasive or invasive tests to diagnose the retinal condition. The retina specialist will review the eye condition based on the results of the tests and arrives at a diagnosis. Next step is counseling session, where the retina specilist will discuss the progress of the retinal condition and the treatment options that are available with the . Usually the counseling is done with the patient and his or her close relative who has accampanied the patient. If an .......most treatment are done on out patient basis on the same day. If any surgical procedure is recommended, the retina specialist will introduce you to the Public Relation Officer, who inturn will carryout the presurgical work up.
